Hi.
Thank you for always reading Agri Step.
I write about those who work to associate “food” through Hyakusho tales.
How much have you thought about the people behind your meal as you eat every day?
I didn’t know anything until I jumped in farming, and I’d never thought about it.
Since my parents weren’t farmers and I lived in the city, I hardly talked to the farmer.
One day, I decided to “jump into farming” without any knowledge of farming. Of course I have no connection with farmers so I would call them and participate in events which are held by the government.
Through those events, I got a chance to work at a farm.
I was 18 years old at the time.
I had the preconception that a farm job was very tough, and actually it was but that’s not all. I still remember so much that I really enjoyed it.
To be honest, farming involves the hard things such as the work during a hot summer season, the work that can not be postponed even though it’s rain, and the harvest until night so that I cannot see if I wouldn’t have electric light.
Even so, it was certainly very comfortable for me to work hard with co-workers, eat lunch together, see the plants and feel nature on a daily basis.
Accumulating such real farming experience made me find an important thing which is the way of life of farmers, wholesalers, retailers and restaurants.
In particular, since I worked for a farmer, I was impressed by the way each farmer lives, and I noticed that’s the way I want to be.
At the same time, I realized that many people of my age are not close to the farmers and don’t know about farm lives.
I think to know how farmer life is as important as to think about the nutrients and calories of what we eat.
Through Agri Step, I would like to give those who do not know about agriculture / farmers or who are interested to know about the farmer’s lives.
The word “Hyakusho” doesn’t mean only a farmer but also a citizen in Japanese.
In “Hyakusho Tales”, I will introduce people who are involved in food.
I would like to introduce those people from all of the countries.
I hope that I can provide new opportunities to those who are already involved in agriculture.
If you have any questions, please feel free to comment.
Please look forward to the Hyakusho tales.
Thank you for continuing support.
