Field Diary vol.4

2020 3/17
Agri Step Field Diary
2020年3月15日2020年3月17日

Hi, everyone.

Thank you for visiting Agri Step.

I observed young lettuces and tubers growing on my field and I thought it would be a good idea to introduce their condition to you.

Additionally, I planted some Japanese mustard spinaches, because a friend senior farmer of me suggested to grow it, because it is rather easy to grow.

Let’s get to the tubers first.

TOC

Tubers

After I planted them, we faced some rainy days in my region, so I was afraid of weather the tubers got sick or not since they are not that resistant to such weather conditions.

I took some tubers.

It seems like there was some sort of mold on this one.

Apparently, this little guy is not fine…

I asked my the previously mentioned senior farmer about this tuber’s condition and he said it is was definitely mold, but it would still have the possibility of coming up as a lively bud.

I observed them today and…

I found many buds!

I was very excited.

How big this one was.

I’m glad to watch strong buds that I planted.

However, some of the tubers that I had taken off the ground, didn’t have buds.

I learned that I shouldn’t move seeds after planted them.

I also found some creatures such as slugs, worms and small insects.

My previously mentioned senior farmer taught me that if there are things as such in field, it’s the meaning of a good soil.

Hopefully, I can get to make it an even better field.

I also found horse tails.

These guys are a really strong weed…I need to keep on fighting it.

I tears the ‘multi vinyl’ in order to expose the buds to the sun.

Young Lettuce

All of the little lettuces are doing well.

However, you can see there are some leaves that are getting yellow in the second pic.

Google said it was a type of growing disorder caused by the lack of calcium.

To heal them, I would need to provide them calcium through fertilizers.

That’s what the internet told me…I will ask the voice of experience later.

Plant Japanese Mustard Spinach

When I purchased the seeds of Japanese mustard spinach at a local home center, I was wondering which seeds I’d buy, because there were seeds from Denmark, Italy, New Zealand, Japan and so on.

Since I had been to New Zealand already, and I find it an awesome country, I choose that one.

I planted them on the ridge which I had already made.

I planted and watered them.

I heard that they can sprout after 3 days at the earliest, which is going to be harvested about 60 days later.

If I can harvest them, it would be a very recommended veggie to plant.

Thank you for reading.
