Hello.

Thank you for always visiting Agri Step.

I am really sad to tell you something in this field diary.

I will explain the red pepper had been broken by heavy wind and the potatoes got disease.

TOC

Red pepper Damage

1 week had passed since I planted red pepper.

It was hard 2 days because of heavy rain and wind.

In order to make the nursery stronger, I set up a prop and tied but it was broken by wind.

I think that it was not strong enough to tie the red pepper up with a prop so I will try to plant it again.

The other summer vegetables are growing well.

Green pepper

Cucumber

Egg plant

I practice bud picking now.

I’ll tell you how I did in another article.

Potato Disease

After potatoes got wind damage, I wondered that some leaves have curled up.

I thought they are not serious problem so I didn’t care about that but the leaves increased.

Finally, I searched why they had been happened.

That is one of disease in potato.

The name is “Black blight”.

The disease cause aerial tubers and create blackish sclerotium on the surface of potatoes.

Moreover, it tend to make small and malformed potatoes.

Can you see the “aerial tuber”?

I think most of all vegetable disease look so weird.

I left the potatoes which had already gotten disease so some of them were rotten.

Many insects came to those leaves.

Here are some reasons I considered.

The cause of Black blight

a. Grew in acidic soil

b. Too much water was in the land

c. Seed had bad sclerotium

d. The soil had ad sclerotium

How to control

・Use the seed which had no sclerotium

・Disinfect the seed

In my case, there are two problem I guess.

1. Grew in acidic soil

2. Some potatoes had already have sclerotium

Acidic soil

The land which is not cultivated gradually acidify because of the acidic rain.

Basically, the germs like the acidic soil.

That’s why, farmers need to control their land ph value.

Black blight is caused by filamentous fungus.

The fungus is trigger of the other diseases as well.

I still have two-third of potatoes such as like this.

I have harvested the potatoes which got disease because they can be eaten.

Thank you for reading.
